Call Before You Dig

Are you are planning to excavate or begin other construction? If so, remember that Florida law states excavators, whether contractors or property owners, MUST call to get underground utility lines marked at a dig site prior to digging.

Call Before You DigA one-call system is in place since the leading cause of incidents in transmission systems is damage from someone other than the owner or operator of the line - a third party. In most cases this damage results from someone excavating without first calling 8-1-1 to mark the location of underground lines.

To determine the location of SeaCoast Gas Transmission lines in Florida, call toll-free at 811. The 811 number helps protect you from unintentionally hitting underground utility lines while working on digging projects. One easy phone call to 811 starts the process to get your underground utility lines marked for free.

If you are a property or homeowner, check with your contractor prior to excavation because YOU may be responsible for making that call.

Failure to call 811 before digging results in Floridians unintentionally hitting underground utility lines, which can lead to injury, penalties, repair costs, and inconvenient utility service interruptions.
If you should happen to strike the pipeline while excavating, it is important that you phone SeaCoast Gas Transmission (1-866-517-7336) immediately. Even damages that appear to be minor, such as dents or chipped pipeline coatings, could result in a leak in the future if not professionally repaired at once.

How It Works

Dial 811 from anywhere in Florida a few days prior to digging, and your call will be routed to your local One Call Center. Tell the operator where you're planning to dig, what type of work you will be doing and your affected local utilities companies will be notified about your intent to dig. In a few days, they'll send a locator to mark the approximate location of your underground lines, pipes and cables, so you'll know what's below - and be able to dig safely.

Remember, always call 811 before you start any digging project!
